Mayor for the year 1885. Alderman 1878 – 1884, 1886 – 1888. Died 5th August, 1894

(From The Cumberland Argus, August 11th, 1894) A well known figure in years gone by, ex-alderman Smith ended several years of suffering on Sunday last, when his troubled spirit fled to a quieter haven. Mr. Smith was 73 years of age and for the past three years, owing to paralysis, has lain in a helpless condition at his residence in Grose- street, Parramatta North. Deceased was for many years an alderman of the Parramatta Council and Mayor for a term. He was born at the Field of Mars and was consequently a native. He was married when 20 years of age at St. John’s, Parramatta and leaves behind a family of seven, the oldest being 52 years of age and the youngest 38.
