Local Studies & Family History : Heritage Library

Research Library

Local Studies & Family History Library - Heritage Library is located at Level 2 of the Library in PHIVE, 5 Parramatta Square. It's official opening was on Friday 23 September.

Opening hours:

Monday to Thursday:  9am – 8pm 
Friday to Sunday: 9am – 5pm 
Closed Public Holidays 

Research Lab Opening hours (by appointment only):

Monday to Friday: 9am – 5pm 
Closed: Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays 

Please email localstudies@cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au or fill up online enquiry form to make an appointment and give 2 working days notice.

The Research Library is a space where researchers can visit to collaborate and work with trained professionals to get family history advice, training in research skills and use library reference services. The library also provides researchers with access to books, newspapers, maps, online databases and reports relating to Parramatta and the surrounding district. In addition it maintains a large back catalogue of microfilm, microfiche and provides free public computers.

Please note: The Research and Collections team provide up to 1 hours research for each individual Information request. For requests that may take longer than this time please refer to our fees and charges (Page 11, 2.1 and 2.2), there is a maximum of 5 enquiries per individual per calendar year. We will provide a response to each request within 5 working days.

Please allow 5 working days for requests to access material from the Cultural Collections, Council and Community Archives Collections.

The Research Library collection is constantly being updated with new titles. These are reference books and can only be accessed if you visit the library. You can also search for our books using the Parramatta City Libraries catalogue. To do this just select ‘local studies’ from the drop down menu in the Additional Limits field
