Foundation Week Parramatta 1972. Video

Parramatta Foundation Week celebrations, have in the past, begun with a procession down Church Street. This video shows the beginning of the parade to mark the opening of the 1972 Foundation Week celebrations. The 1972 procession was one of the biggest Parramatta had held, stretching more than one kilometre, it began at Parramatta Park, George Street entrance and snaked its way south down O’Connell Street, left into Argyle Street and  and then left again down Church Street where crowds of people lined the streets. This procession was headed by the  NSW Mounted Police Corps. They were followed by the HMAS Parramatta contingent with the HMAS Sydney Band, The Lions Club emergency vehicle exhibit, Prospect County Council float and Murray Brother’s horse drawn coach.

Peter Arfanis, Archivist, Parramatta Council, Heritage Centre, 2015
