World War One – Parramatta Soldiers – Private Stanley James McIntosh

Private Stanley James McIntosh was a 24 year old carter from Armadale New South Wales. He was the son of Mr and Mrs J. McIntosh of Parramatta. He enlisted under the name of Stanley James Yule, so that his parents wouldn’t know he had enlisted. He named his cousin Miss Cant of North Sydney as his next of kin. He married Mrs Florence Alice McIntosh on 22 April 1916. He enlisted on 24 August 1914. He embarked with his battalion from Sydney aboard the HMAT Suffolk A23 on 18 October 1914. He suffered a gunshot wound to his left leg on 11 August 1915 at Lonepine and was admitted to the 2 General Australian General Hospital, Gezira, Cairo. He was returned wounded to Australia aboard the Karoola on 4 December 1915. He was discharged on the grounds of being medically unfit on 3 February 1917.
