The business of Council

postion title plates on display

Our showcase in the lounge area features a selection of items from Council's Cultural Collections.

Position title plates, were commonplace on the desks of public servants up until the late 1970's.  We have a great selection of position title plates including directors, inspectors, engineers and town clerks.

Ballot box No. 2 is on display in Town Hall, No. 11 is currently on display in PHIVE.  Voters placed their completed voting forms into these ballot boxes during Parramatta Municipal Council elections.

Council seal embossing press were used to certify council documents, 3 of these can be seen on display - take a look at our 3D scan of the decorative Granville embossing press from 1885 and the seal

  Also on display is the decorative trowel used by Mayor Charles Byrnes when he laid the foundation stone for the council chambers in 1879, plus a bible gifted at a naturalisation ceremony in 1970.
