Written in the Stars: Astronomy in Parramatta

Parramatta Observatory
Parramatta Observatory

Join us for a virtual tour to discover the fascinating history of astronomy in Parramatta. We will explore the story behind the construction and operation of Governor Brisbane's observatory, the remnants of which still stand in Parramatta Park today, focusing on the 1835 publication of the "Catalogue of 7385 Stars from observations made at the observatory in Parramatta". We will also consider the intricate links between the earth and night sky for the traditional custodians of the Parramatta area, the Darug people.

A fascinating account and well worth the listening. Also, what amazing Aboriginal artwork joining representations of Ulchurringa with the beautiful night sky that stretches over all of us.
