This sandstock brick is circa. 1820 possibly manufactured in the Parramatta area. The broadarrow impression denotes government ownership. It was originally scanned at Macquarie University as an early demonstration of structured light scanning for the Council. This was actually the first item the Council had 3D scanned by anyone! Following on from the original brick 3D scan, Macquarie undertook scanning of the ships bell from the HMAS Parramatta III. The scanning of the bell was really a discovery process as it is one of the more difficult items to scan. The bell itself was scanned with two different structured light approaches and also with photogrammetry which were then meticulously combined to create the final exquisite model published. This shows the benefits of a high end mixed methods approach that Macquarie University are now teaching students through the current collaborations. View the bell 3D scan here . The bell shows the engravings on the inside rim of the names of
babies born to members of the crew. Read our story here
